Micropayment is founded as one of the first payment service providers worldwide: In the still young medium of the Internet, online sales of services, goods and commodities increase. With Micropayment, Andreas Richter and Kai Thiemann develop technologies and processes to standardize payment transactions and make them secure and transparent.
The first own payment method of Micropayment. Call2Pay was developed especially for paid internet content, such as e-books, music, newspaper articles, test reports and online games. In 2006, approximatly 96% of all German households had a fixed line connection. So what could be more obvious than enabling payment by telephone on the World Wide Web? The purchase price is charged to the telephone bill. Despite the fact that the number of landline connections is declining, this method of payment is still used today.
Shortly after Call2Pay, a separate payment option was also developed for the rapidly growing mobile phone market. Payment independent of time and place: 1st generation mobile payment! Smartphones with their diverse application possibilities were still dreams of the future. In 2006, SMS were the perfect basis for mobile payment on the Internet.
The TÜV Rheinland AG as an internationally recognised and independent testing service provider awards Micropayment as the first Internet billing service provider in Germany two quality seals "TÜV-tested customer satisfaction" and "TÜV-tested Internet billing". With this, the TÜV confirms the professionalism of our solutions and gives dealers and customers security on the Internet. To this day, Micropayment focuses on maximum user-friendliness and transparency for all solutions.
Once again, Micropayment proves the right intuition: in 2007, the credit card was still considered an exclusive and elitist means of payment used by a small circle of customers with high incomes. In order to be able to address these high-spending target groups, Micropayment developed solutions to enable payment by credit card on the Internet. Since 2007 the number of credit cards in Germany has doubled and it is one of the most popular payment methods on the internet.
One year after the introduction of the first payment method by Micropayment, the Berlin-based company is now presenting the fourth payment method in its portfolio. At that time still called "eBank2Pay", this product is now a common and familiar method for a successful purchase for many buyers and merchants as "Sofortüberweisung".
Just as rapidly as the Internet and online trade are developing, Micropayment is also expanding its portfolio. With increasing turnover and a growing number of retailers and service providers in the virtual world, the demands of the customers are rising. We take this into account by constantly developing new payment methods: Electronic Direct Debit, which has been successful since the 1980s, is also being made available to online trade at Micropayment.
Micropayment responds to the growing demands of online customers and merchants and the increasing competition on the Internet with a new graphical user interface in the payment windows of all payment methods. Many new technical details are integrated, which of course contribute to putting user-friendliness at the centre of the solution.
HandyPay has established in Germany and is one of the most popular payment methods in its class in 2008. This is why we are expanding internationally: since 2008, payments by mobile phone have been possible from Austria and Switzerland.
Through the cooperation with Micropayment, the online donation project "spende-ein-essen.de" of the "Düsseldorfer Kindertafel" opens up new financial resources. It is the prelude to our commitment in the fundraising market. Today, more than 400 charity and fundraising organizations trust our expertise. And we are proud to contribute with our work to making the world a more social place.
This year again, Micropayment receives confirmation from TÜV Rheinland that we are among the best in class in terms of "service quality and customer satisfaction".
The service and performance of the brand Micropayment is in demand internationally five years after the company was founded. Therefore, in spring, the company enters the market in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Sweden with the payment method HandyPay. Thus Micropayment is now represented in 14 countries.
Micropayment enters new dimensions of intelligent online payment systems and presents its customers the payment method "advance payment by bank transfer". This enables merchants to integrate up to six different payment methods "made by Micropayment" into their shop.
The Payment Service Provider Micropayment, which is active in over 16 countries, was recently able to complete the extensive certification according to PCI DSS Standard Level 1 for the second time and is thus one of the most secure in Europe.
Dealer information anytime and anywhere. The proven Micropayment ControlCenter is now available for mobile use. It supports Micropayment dealers to control their business even more professionally and to have an overview of their online offer at any time and any place.
A new component in the payment method portfolio: In connection with our strategy of offering the perfect payment mix, the "paydirekt" payment method developed by German banks and savings banks is a logical step.
So that customers can pay for their purchases with perfect Micropayment quality anywhere and anytime, our payment windows are now perfectly adapted for all mobile devices. Once again, the Berlin-based payment service provider proves its customer-oriented thinking combined with the latest technical know-how.
A long-standing and successful cooperation between Micropayment and Volksbank eG as well as First Cash Solution GmbH (1cs) is permanently sealed in a strategic alliance of the companies. The aim of this partnership is to join forces to shape the future of online payment.
Micropayment receives confirmation that all processes comply with the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), which has been in force since January 2018. PSD2 defines how payments within the European Economic Area must be processed. Banks and financial institutions in particular have faced major challenges in implementing the requirements, especially as they have to allow third party payment service providers access to their banking systems.
Together with our customers, partners and employees we celebrate 20 years of payment expertise. In 1999, the starting signal was given in Berlin to invoice services and goods digitally.
Micropayment facilitates with its portfolio the life of people in lockdown in the best possible way: The increased importance of online trade in the context of the crisis makes the work of Micropayment even more important. And so we as a payment service provider make an important contribution to ensuring that contactless shopping functions perfectly.
All our traders and fundraisers are successfully switching their accounts to Volksbank. In this way, we are setting the course for the digital future. Learn more about the innovative account
Since 2005 Micropayment as a payment service provider, is a stable partner for companies and organisations, who require payment solutions on the internet. Today we are an inherent part in an etablished industry, but 15 years ago the concept of a payment service provider was only known to experts.
We ourselves back then described our business misson with "added value solution and billing on the internet". This is still appropriate today. The extensive changes on the payment market as well as the rapidly changing user behavior are demanding Micropayment to question and reinvent ourselves every day.
Solid, safe technical tools and a range of payment methods are not alone at the forefront. We distinguish us from others by our customer friendly service for our retailer and fundraiser together with personal advice where we deal with individual challenges.

Of course we could publish any number of figures here. But how do they help you? Therefore only three important facts for you:
There are about 160 different currencies in the world. In 2020, Micropayment will be settling over 65 of these currencies. Did you know: Mauritania and Madagascar are the only two countries in the world that have currencies without sub-units. The IT of Micropayment is able to process such payments.
Some payment service providers advertise over 250 possible payment methods for integration with the merchant. Micropayment is limited to the nine main payment methods that customers want. This means that over 99% of all transactions can be mapped. Niche payment methods would only drive up our prices due to high development and maintenance costs.
We do not know whether 15,000 traders are a lot or a little. But we do know that our dealers are 100% satisfied with us. If required, we will gladly provide you with references for your personal queries. Or take a look at our website customer opinions.
Many payment methods can also be accessed via the API interfaces of Micropayment. The programming of our interfaces provides you with undreamt-of freedom. Build your own design or use our payment systems as a subscription solution. Further information is available in the Micropayment-TechDoc Center.
